Writing!
We are
doing SO MUCH WRITING these days! We are
continuing to practice writing pieces that have purpose and information in a
organized and interesting manner. Your
kids have started researching a topic that relates to our science unit Watery
Earth. They could choose from a wide
variety of topics including: Line 5,
Nestle (buying Michigan water), sea lamprey, and Asian Carp. Stay tuned, interesting reports AND letters ahead! Students will write a letter to someone regarding their topic. Many kids will write to the Governor, Senators, The EPA, or a combination of the three. There are so many ways we use writing in our lives. Short notes, long letters, postcards, research reports, and CARDS! We spent some time talking about writing for a purpose and all of the reasons you would send a card. They then wrote cards to my mom for her birthday. Priceless. They had to include an illustration and at least 6 sentences (not including Happy Birthday!). They were SO good. My mom loved them. Writing is a lot more fun when it has a purpose and a specific audience! Especially when that audience isn't your teacher or your parents. :)
The Great Lakes!
Watery Earth
As we continue
our science unit Watery Earth, we are learning cool facts about our amazing
Great Lakes! What a fun unit! Made more fun because we are surrounded by
20% of the world’s freshwater supply. We are creating a pamphlet where we will gather information on everything we are doing for our watery earth unit. We will include information about an invasive species, the water cycle, Great Lake facts, their research report and things they will collect and investigate on our Lake Erie trip.
