Flora and Ulysses by
Kate DiCamillo
As you know, I love reading to your kids.  We started a new book on Monday and they LOVE it.  Flora and Ulysses is a sweet story about a young self proclaimed cynic and a squirrel who was accidentally run over by a vacuum.

Here are some questions to ask your kids about the book:
Can you describe Flora?  What is she like?  What do you know about her?
Flora is hoping Ulysses will be a super hero.  Do you think he is super hero material?
What do you know about Flora’s relationship with her mom?
Who is MaryAnn?  Why doesn’t Flora like her?
Tell me about William Spiver.

While reading, we stop and discuss new vocabulary words.  I love the conversations we have while reading a book.  There are always comparisons to books we’ve already read and they often compare the characters they’ve “met” while reading.
