Picture Books
Everyone knows I love books.  I completely admit it, I’m a book freak.  Picture books are, by far, my biggest book weakness.  They are absolutely amazing and I love reading them to your kids.  The illustrations are as important as the text, and kids hang on every word AND illustration.  They laugh out loud, gasp, and snicker.  I love every single moment!  Wolf Camp was such a sweet story and your kids thought it was hilarious.  Ask them about Homer, whet he learned at Wolf Camp, and have them tell you their favorite part or parts.

LEGOS and All Toys ROCK!

BEST.  TOY.  EVER.  The collection of LEGOS in our classroom were mine when I was a kid.  Going into a LEGO store is one of my favorite things to do.  I am like a kid in a candy store.  Our class was given LEGOS last week, and the kids were overjoyed.  I was too.  The new colors!  SWOON!  Take it from someone who spends a lot of time with your kids, skip the technology and video games this year.  Get your kids TOYS.  Thinks to put together and take apart.  Things that allow them to problem solve and use their hands.  Supplies that allow them to create, draw, paint, weave, or etch.  Screens have their place.  We use iPads in the classroom, but I limit their time.  It’s so important for them to be able to use their hands and brains while playing.  Solving problems while playing will help them solve problems on the playground, or while doing a math problem.  When we have indoor recess, they are ALL engaged.  They are all doing something that doesn’t involve technology (it’s not allowed during QT or indoor recess).  THEY LOVE EVERY SINGLE MOMENT.  LEGOS and wood blocks are the hands down favorite.  They are proud of what they build and engaged.  Fully engaged.  What was YOUR favorite toy as a kid?  Perhaps it’s time to show your kids your favorite and play WITH them!

Snow Globes

Working with our kindergarten buddies on Friday is such a highlight of our week.  Your kids are so remarkable with their buddies.  They are patient, kind, helpful, and eager to work with them.  On Friday, we created snow globes with our buddies.  We will finish them this week, but here’s a sneak peek into their amazing work.  They had a ball!
