Kids really need to know their multiplication facts!  If they aren’t fairly automatic, they need to spend 10+ minutes a day practicing.  They can use a computer game, IXL, or anything that works for them.  It makes the math we are doing a lot more difficult if they are trying to figure out their basic facts along with the problem.
