Poems for Two

Writing poetry is a lot of fun.  There are rules, but a lot less so, and you can really do just about anything you want with your own poetry.  We have studied a lot of different kinds of poetry this year, and will continue to learn more about specific types of poems in the coming weeks and months.

This week, we were learning about poems that were written for two voices.  SO.  FUN.  Our morning message asked them to brainstorm poem topics they’d like to write about.  The plot twist: you will need to discuss topics with your assigned partner and decide, between the two of you, what you will write about.  We discussed what would look like to be a good partner and discussed rules of the game.  Such as:  Both people must participate in writing the poem.  You must say things at the same time at least three times.  One of those times, you need to say something different.  They wrote amazing poems.  I can’t wait to share them with you.  They will continue to work on their poems next week and will perform them by the end of next week.  Yay!
