Writing

We have spent a lot of time in the last week practicing our essay writing skills.  The kids all have a folder that is being used to keep track of our writing and we learn new strategies to help us become better writers every day.  Writing is a tough subject.  There are so many rules and different kinds of writing in the world!  What we’ve been working on this week are strategies to help us write a short essay that answers a specific question using evidence from text.  While the lessons we’ve been focusing on were created to help kids with MSTEP, we continue to discuss how they help in all aspects of writing.  Ask your kids what they saw on Friday that connected with the text we read (hint: it was once alive, and it is quite puffy).
