Speaking of DOTS

In 5th grade math this week, we talked about the importance of what we are learning about.  What do YOU think is important?  Kids will keep dot stickers and put them on the things they think is important for them to know.  I will add my input too.  This is a great way for them to take ownership of the importance of the math we are learning and a way to keep track of the things that we think will be helpful to know.  Some themes:  place value, converting measurement, and parentheses!  We have discussions about using this math in real life situations and I encourage you to talk with your kids about the math YOU use in your job or your everyday life.  We continue exploring VOLUME in 5th grade and PLACE VALUE, ROUNDING and ESTIMATION in 4th grade.
