Card Making…Writing…and Mailing Cards
The Cards…
Making cards is a fun activity
and we had a ball making these cool cards from Styrofoam prints. Linoleum is fantastic, but it takes a lot
more time, tools, and skill to pull off a great design. Styrofoam, on the other hand, is quick, easy
and allows kids to create great designs quickly.
The Writing…
They could send their card to
ANYONE in the WORLD. In their Writer’s Notebooks, they wrote their draft
letter. Once they finished their letter,
they re-read what they had written and fixed punctuation, spelling errors,
sentences that didn’t make sense, etc. They
then enlisted the help of an EDITOR (anyone in our class...except for me!) and working with their
editor, they made further changes to their work.
Mailing…
We learned how to address an
envelope and some kids even decorated them…turning their letters into a work of art. J
YahoOooo! Letters were placed
into the mail on Monday. Yay!
Letter writing is a lost
art. Writing letters is an AWESOME way
to get kids writing. Email works too,
but there’s nothing better than getting an actual LETTER in the mail. And, usually, when you write something, you
get something back! Your kids wrote to a
variety of different people. So
cool. President Obama, grandparents,
friends, parents, US Fish and Wildlife…and so much more!
You should be very proud of all of their hard work.
Postrcossing.com is an
awesome way for kids to write and you will absolutely get things back!
