Gee’s Bend meets
McGee’s Bend

What a creative group of kids!  After reading more about Gee’s Bend, its history, and how the women of Gee’s Bend have been creating such amazing quilts since the 19th century, we created our own.  Currently more than 50 quilters make up the Gee’s Bend Collective.  This collective is owned by the women of Gee’s Bend and every quilt sold by the Gee’s Bend Quilt Collective is unique and individually produced.

The quilters used materials that were on hand, worn out shirts, old pants, etc. to create these amazing pieces of art.  We studied some of the quilts today (I had a variety of them projected on our white board while we worked) and discussed what kind of shapes were in the quilts, and the kind of designs that were created using these simple and beautiful shapes.  What they created is beautiful.  Enjoy.
