Martin Luther King Jr.
The MORNING MESSAGE is a great part of our day. It's on the white board when they come into the classroom in the morning. It gives them directions on what they should do as they enter the classroom. Often, it tells them to WRITE. They LOVE to share too, so we always share what we've done. If we can't do it immediately, we try to meet as soon as possible. Kids aren't required to share, they can choose to pass. More and more kids CHOOSE to share, which makes my heart sing. :)
We have spent a lot of time in
the last two weeks learning about Dr. King, his struggles, triumphs, and
character traits. We read the book Martin’s
Big Words and discussed the many amazing aspects of the life of Dr. Martin
Luther King.
A character trait is a word that
describes a person. A physical trait
describes a person’s physical features and physical abilities, but a character
trait focuses on a character’s personality.
We discussed Dr. King’s character
and the things he contributed to our world while he was alive and what has
changed since his death. They did an
amazing job describing what an wonderful human being he is and all that they
know about him.
We started our MLK portraits last
week. Wow. They are such a creative group of kids. Spectacular work! I will post pictures of their final work as
soon as they finish! Bravo!
