Multiplication

Learn it!  Love it!  Practice it!  Knowing our facts makes life easier.  It’s just that simple.  We learned a new way to solve multiplication problems on Thursday.

At this point, I am encouraging them to choose the strategy that works best for THEM.  The key is for them to continue to practice solving problems on a regular basis.  10-15 minutes at a time...no need to spend hours doing it, but they MUST DO IT REGULARLY!
It’s ESSENTIAL that everyone is practicing their facts!  The ultimate goal:  Getting into the clubs!  What!?  What kind of clubs?  If kids get a perfect score (50/50 for addition and subtraction and 100/100 for multiplication) three times in a rowthey don’t have to take our weekly 2 and 5 minute tests (which we take on Wednesdays)!  Woot!  Of course, they CAN take the tests if they choose to do so.  While others are testing, they get extra IXL time.

On Thursday, our morning message (always on the white board when they come in to the classroom in the morning) asked them to solve three multiplication problems using their favorite strategy.
