Author Visit

What a fun way to start our week!  Gene Yang, author of Secret Coders, came on Monday and gave a spectacular presentation.  Kids listened to every word and even got a chance to show off their coding skills.  Mrs. Rentz read the book to everyone the week before the visit and kids connected with Mr. Yang immediately.  He talked about himself as a young kid, and shared his experiences about writing and illustrating.  You should have heard the gasps when he told the crowd he was currently writing comics for DC Comics.  Talk about impressing an entire room of kids!  I created some comic book panels and we started creating our own comics on Monday afternoon.  A great way to get kids writing!  Ask your child to tell you about the comic they created.  They will have a chance to work on these comics again next week too.  They were SO excited!  WOoT!
