Reading
This is a spectacular piece of nonfiction text.  The author is witty and pulls you in, making you eager to learn more.  What a great find in our book orders!

We are finishing up our biography reports (and presenting them to our reading buddies in Mrs. Murrell’s room on Friday) this week.  We are spending time with both fiction and nonfiction texts and exploring new types of text.  We are in the process of recording reading a book out loud.  Once recorded, they listen to themselves and we talk about what they hear.  I ask them to tell me things that they do well, and things they want to improve in when reading out loud.  I am always struck by how easy it is for them to come up with things they want to change about themselves, and how it can be tricky and difficult it can be to compliment themselves. Sure, we can always improve, but your kids are great readers!  Here’s what we are looking for:

Reading with inflection and feeling.  Pronouncing words and sentences clearly.  Sounding out difficult words, or using context to figure out an unknown word.  Finding a pace that isn’t too slow, or too fast.  Reading with passion!  J
