Index Card Towers

STEM activities are such a WONDERFUL thing to do in the classroom.  Our index card towers were fabulous!  We used what we learned from our marshmallow towers and were able to create some really innovative towers.  Kids worked in groups of 4 to create the tallest tower they could using 100 index cards and1 yard of tape.  They could use scissors and a ruler as well.  They spent five minutes talking with their team members about their ideas, and then had 25 minutes to build their towers.  The biggest lesson learned:  If you don’t work as a team, you won’t do very well.  We will continue to do STEM activities as I think there are TREMENDOUS benefits to working on problems that don’t require kids to find one specific answer.
