It’s BIOGRAPHY SEASON!
On Monday, we started reading
biographies. I shared parts of the book Who
Was Martin Luther King Jr.? and we discussed elements of a biography and
went shopping to find the person we wanted to know more about. I have a large collection of biographies and
it was really fun to watch them choose their person. We discussed how to choose books and strategies
to find a book about someone you really want to know more about.
Writing is a very important part
of our curriculum. We write EVERY SINGLE
DAY! Here are some things we are doing
while reading our biographies:
1. Note taking – We are taking notes about our
books. The note pages help guide us, but
they can add other items if they’d like.
2. Writing about our reading in our Reader’s
Notebooks – Our second label of the week is
about our biography. Writing specific
details about our person and telling someone more about their person will help
them to write their final biography projects.
3. Biography Projects – Kids will write a report about
their biography person (they don’t know the format of the report yet J ) and will work on the writing
features of such a report in the next few weeks.
