WONDER

We started reading the book Wonder on Monday.  What a WONDERful book this is.  It’s one of my favorites.  Please ask your kids to tell you about what has happened in the book so far!  Here are some of the characters:  Auggie Pullman (he’s the main character and is going to school for the first time.  Ask them why he hasn’t gone to school until now.), Via (Auggie’s teenage sister.), Jack Will (one of the kids who showed Auggie around the school. Ask them why Auggie likes Jack.  Julian Albans (the bully of the story.  Ask them to tell you why they think he’s going to be the bully.   We will write a lot about Wonder and have many discussions about what happens in the book.  There are a lot of really cool things about this book.  The same story is told from different point of views – which is a REALLY cool thing to discuss with fourth graders.  It’s so interesting to hear the same events told in different perspectives.  Treating people with kindness is a main theme of this book.  I have always stressed the power of KIND in my classroom, but this book really helps to bring that idea home.
