Martin Luther King Jr.
We spent time getting to know Dr.
King this week too. We read Martin’s
Big Words – The Life of Dr. Martin Luther
King Jr. by
Doreen Rappaport. We also looked through
a variety of books in our own classroom library about Dr. King and his amazing
life and accomplishments. They then
wrote poems about Dr. King, either alone or with a partner or partners. They were so creative and worked so hard to
produce really amazing work. I have always
talked about the power of THEIR words – making sure they understand that you don’t have to be
famous for your words to have importance and meaning. The words they say are important and have
impact on those around you. Your words,
no matter how old you are, can lift people UP, or bring people DOWN. Choose your words carefully, and remember to
choose kind. That’s always our message,
but it’s especially the message we project when remembering such an amazing and
important human being.
